Business Ready Training
Business Ready Training is an entry level business course aimed
at people who want to learn what is involved in becoming
self-employed. This course is also suitable for clients who
may want to take part in the New Enterprise Allowance scheme (run
by Job Centre Plus) which aims to help people on Job Seekers
Allowance to start a business. This course will show that they are
serious about this, as there will be eligibility criteria for the
scheme; accredited courses are recognised at part of this.
At the end of the course learners will receive a qualification.
Is this course for me?
Have you ever wanted to learn about starting a business and
are not sure where to start? This course will teach you the basic
concepts about enterprise and starting up a
business.
What does the course involve?
Find out what personal skills and qualities you have that can
help you develop a business idea. You will explore these through
practical exercises and written tasks, with guidance from a course
tutor who has a background in professional business advice and
consulting. When you successfully complete the course you will gain
a qualification: OCR Level 1 Award in Understanding Business
Enterprise Activities.
The course will be based at the Newham
College's Women’s Business Centre and East Ham Campus.
What options are open to me if I successfully complete the
course?
The course has a wide variety of progression options for further
study including business related qualifications including level 2
business qualifications.
What qualifications do I need to get on to the course?
No previous business experience or qualifications needed. You
must have an interest in wanting to learn about starting a
business. This course is aimed at people over 19 years of age who
are in unemployed and receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or
Income Support.
Length of the course
The course is 30 hours in total and runs one day a
week over 5 weeks from 9.30am - 3.30pm.
Cost
The cost of this course is £87. However the course is
free if you are over 19 years of age
unemployed and in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Income
Support. Course materials will be provided.

How do I register for the course?
- If you are receiving Job Seekers Allowance,
you will need to go to your Job Centre Plus Adviser and asked to be
referred to the course. You should be given two forms: REF2
& SL2. You must also bring a letter stating you are in receipt
of JSA, which is no more than 6 months old. You can quote
the following Job Opportunities Number: RMF/23642.
- If you are receiving Income Support you need
to bring a letter stating you are in receipt of this benefit
which is no more than 6 months old.
You can then come into the
East Ham Campus of Newham College to register for the course.
