Her Business (2003 - 2006)
Aim of project: Her business was set up initially to address the
issues of support for women who wanted to start a business or were
at the early stages of their business. Her Business had to think
above and beyond traditional organisation-based design and delivery
of training to support ethnic minority women in business.
In order to gain the most from the training and to provide role
models in business ownership, women who participated learnt
alongside the business support staff, including the coaches,
business adviser, support staff and even the project manager.
- A total of 325 women were supported through the project
- 83% were from ethnic minorities
- Beneficiaries received a total of 19,780 hours of support
- £1,255,260.00 of turnover was generated by the businesses set
up and run by beneficiaries of the project
- 85 people were employed
The success of the project led to 12 months of extended support
for women who had not had an opportunity to be part of the first
Her Businesss Programme.
